Our Story

Prima Diva was born from a desire to create exquisite tutus for Talia, founder Sasha Fidra’s daughter. Having been trained in Architecture and fine arts, Sasha quickly developed her talent for costume making and love of ballet into a flourishing tutu business.

Founded in 2012 Prima Diva has grown into an internationally recognized tutu brand being represented on many stages with dancers from all over the world.

Inspired by classical ballet and the inherent beauty of a dancers movement, for Sasha it’s always been about bringing the fabrics, music and dancers style together in a cohesive unit as one. Each fabric holds its own personality and combining them in unique ways with gems and trims to create a work of art is forever what drives Sasha’s passion for costuming. Luxurious fabrics such as dupion silk, brocade, jacquards, raw silk and lace are combined with a vast array of embelishments into unique and ever evolving custom designed tutus. No two tutus are alike and each one tells its own story. The tutus are designed to be lived in, loved and to inspire the dancer to perform at their best.

Dancer’s measurements and requirements are taken during a design consultation appointment with either Bronwen in Brisbane or Sasha in Ross, Tasmania. This process can also be managed by phone and email for overseas or interstate clients. The dancer is then included in the design process before the tutu is created to fit the dancer.

Tutus create meaningful connections to memories of performances from renowned Ballet Repertoire. “It’s the connection between the dancer and the tutu that helps tell their own story, and this is what inspires me to keep creating exceptional costumes.”
